# Outfit Generator — clothes and Hair

Interface release **v1.0** · 2026-10-05. [Release notes](../characterStudio/RELEASE_NOTES.md) ·
[v1+ roadmap](../characterStudio/ROADMAP.md).

Open `index.html` on a static HTTP host. Choose Everyday, Formal, or Active, a
palette, and a seed; generate one or three outfits. Hold garments while rerolling,
edit descriptions, and download an outfit or the complete Studio workspace.

This independent wardrobe entry point shares the Character Studio app and styles.
It requires no Character and exports readable clothing text. Import its Studio JSON
into `../characterStudio/index.html` to add Appearance and compose an image prompt.

The catalogue is authored draft data for humanoid, temperate-weather ensembles.
Active currently means travel. Edited descriptions keep their original coverage
metadata; neither a physics model nor automatic free-prose interpretation is claimed.

The four-role palette has editable hex swatches. Palette edits hold the palette;
held garments retain their actual colours. Generated bases and authored trim use
explicit hex in readable outfit text and the selected Clothes Block. Open its
preview to copy or download `clothes-block.txt`. All outfit slots are represented,
including underlayers, None, Unspecified, and one-piece references. This draft
variable-notation fragment is separate from the reimportable JSON format.

Legacy Studio/outfit 0.1 JSON remains supported; unknown hex colours stay unknown.
New engine/catalogue recipes are 0.2, so older recipes require their original
runtime for exact replay. Full JSON preserves the older outfit and its edits.

Catalogue sources are now split into shared palettes, garment slot groups, and
Everyday/Formal/Active ensembles. `data/catalogue.json` is a small ordered manifest;
see [the data guide](data/README.md) for where to edit each record. The assembled
data and seeded outputs are identical to the pre-split catalogue. Both tools share
the same loader. JSON exports remain complete portable records rather than manifests.

The shared Hair section now browses nine coherent arrangements with independent
seeds, length/texture confirmation, and presentation/occasion/attitude/construction
filters. Unknown fit needs review; cropped/no scalp hair has no catalogue match.
Practical reach, fastener, and headwear notes accompany each style. You can edit
four regional views, hold the arrangement through outfit generation, restore a
baseline, and copy/download a Hair Block. JSON retains the complete style snapshot.
Presentation uses Any/Masc/Fem/Unspecified browse labels and never enters generated
visual text. Hair styling does not cut, dye, extend, or transform existing hair.
Standalone mode has no supplied Character baseline; confirm No scalp hair when
appropriate, or keep the baseline unspecified. New fasteners are requirements,
not automatically owned inventory. See [the Hair source guide](data/hair/README.md).

Unexported workspace changes activate the same leave-page warning as Studio.
Only complete Studio JSON export clears it when the download starts; keep the
file. Selected outfit/Blocks/text do not preserve the entire workspace. A full
Studio import or restored example is clean; browser warnings are not autosave.
